The commission — a lesson to teach

He's been recruiting his friends to run away from his little sister at the playground

for a boy, almost 5 · a little sibling, age 2
Our casting recommendationone step away
Let's give this one to a lovable fox pal instead of your son directly, so he can discover the joy of including his sister through someone else's story, rather than feeling pointed at in his own.
The storyline we picked (of three pitched)
A warm, giggly caper set in a rabbit warren-playground, perfect for the almost-5 crowd who loves a chase. Baxter is the bunny every friend wants to play with — quick hops, clever games, and a rule that little sister Pip is always 'too small to follow.' The toddler refrain 'Hop, hop, off we go!' bounces through the pages (and shifts, at the very end, to 'Hop, hop, here we go!' — an easy, satisfying echo for your two-year-old to chant along). When Baxter's game leads him into unmapped tunnels and he can't find his way back, the very thing that used to annoy him — Pip's habit of copying every hop he makes — turns out to be the only map anyone has.

Beneath the playground, in a warren of sandy tunnels, everyone knew Baxter was the fastest hopper around. He darted between the slide and the sandpit, ears flying. "Hop, hop, off we go!" he called, and Clover and Fig scrambled to follow, sand spraying behind their quick zigzags. Only the littlest bunny, toddling far behind, was left to catch up.Page 1 of 11

That littlest bunny was Pip, Baxter's baby sister. She copied every hop he made, her blue ribbon bouncing. "You're too small to follow," Baxter told her. He, Clover, and Fig zigzagged off in a burst of sand, chanting "Hop, hop, off we go!" Pip just watched, humming softly, and hopped after them anyway.Page 2 of 11

The next day, Baxter dreamed up a brand-new trick — a triple-spin hop, tricky and fast. "No baby sister could ever copy this one!" "Hop, hop, off we go!" they shouted, spinning away in a whirl of sand. But when Baxter peeked back, there was Pip, already mid-spin, humming hmm-hop, hmm-hop, matching him move for move.Page 3 of 11
